Hold a Candle Devlog #1

This is the start of my development log for Hold a Candle, my entry to the 2024 Mental Health Game Development Championship

I am very new to game development, only having had some experience in programming extremely recently, but that experience was fantastic and I want to develop my game development skills further. Mental health is a topic that is very important to me and this charity-run game jam centring on the topic felt like a perfect way to challenge myself and make something that I feel I can be truly proud of.

I will be keeping this devlog throughout the entire process, to show my planning, share my ideas, and my progress as the game is in development, before I release it. The development time runs until October 31st. Hopefully the game will be finished before then though!

My plan as of right now is to make a runner/platformer focussing on my own experiences with the process of grieving, the fear of slowing down, isolating through hard times, and the burnout that comes with all of those things. The first week or so of the Jam, I will be focussing on solidifying my plans and familiarising myself with the engine I'll be using, so there will be more on the mechanics another time.

I will be updating the format of this cover once I learn a thing or two about HTML
